Home insurance is an insurance which provides financial protection against disasters and bad happenings to the house and its belongings. Homeowners should buy homeowners insurance so that if anything untoward happens, they will have adequate financial help through insurance coverage.
Insurance policy is a document which is an agreement between the insurance seller and the insurance buyer whereby the insurer agrees to pay a certain fixed amount of financial aid if something happens to the house, in return for a fixed premium paid at regular intervals to the company. The amount of the policy depends on the house and its contents as the insurance policy covers the house and all that is in it. The insurance buyer has to make a list of all the items to be insured and their value and then come to a conclusion as to how much insurance he has to buy and for how long.
Sometimes people buy home insurance if they are going away on a trip or for a long period of time and there is no one at home. Under such circumstances if antisocial elements ransack the house or there is a fire or something happens, the insurance agency will provide enough financial aid to set things right.
If the homeowner finds it difficult to assess the cost of the things in his house or he does not have the time to do it, he can call a person who can estimate it for him. If his belongings are expensive and he has bills to prove them, he should send the estimate to the insurance company. Based on that he can arrive at an estimate of how much insurance he needs to cover the house and its contents. He can then buy insurance for his house and decide how much premium he has to pay.
Normally home insurance covers eventualities like fire, theft, breakage and the like. Some policies cover natural disasters like cyclones, floods, earthquakes and the like. Sometimes the insurer may need to buy separate insurance for natural disasters and for manmade ones. The premium in the case of manmade disasters depends upon a lot of things. If the house is near a fire station or if there are fire fighting devices in the house, then the premium may be less. If the house is in the vicinity of bad elements where the chances of the house being ransacked are considerably high, the premium may be more.
The premium also depends on the age and condition of the house. In most cases maintenance is not covered by the insurance. Maintenance is the responsibility of the home owner. A homeowner’s insurance is a package policy whereby both damage to the house and the legal responsibilities for any injuries and property damage which the insurer and his family members may cause to other people. This includes damages caused by family pets also.
